My printer does not print since I upgraded Ubuntu to 18.04.1 about 10 October 2018.
I have followed advice in over 30 emails from several guys using ubuntu-users list without success. The error "Filter failed" keeps appearing. I am a retired end user of Ubuntu since 2004, but still do not know much about linux or cups or debian. So I finally read some of the advice in https://wiki.debian.org/DissectingandDebuggingtheCUPSPrintingSystem and started to do some steps but got very lost. The printer works well if I switch to Windows 7 but that is little use because that has very few apps in it. I am quite sure this problem can be solved but I only have the skills to do terminal commands that I can copy and paste. Please help me get this printer to work again -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to hplip in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/35248 Title: Regression: CUPS does not print to HP Deskjet 3745 Status in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in hplip package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: The HP Deskjet 3745 USB printer worked under Hoary and Warty using the HP Deskjet 3740 print driver. In Breezy and Dapper I have failed to get it to work with the CUPS Deskjet driver (Deskjet 3740 doesn't exist anymore) or the hplip system. It can't even print a test page. CUPS appears to think the printer sent the test page fine and the page printed; it never makes it to the physical printer. It also seems to not notice the USB cable was pulled out; even though cups no longer sees the printer, it states its status is "Ready" at all times. Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'cups'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.
