Hello Jeremy, or anyone else affected, Accepted gedit into cosmic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/3.30.2-0ubuntu0.18.10.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.
