Title:
  gedit hangs when opening files padded with null characters

Status in gedit package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Opening the attached file using gedit 3.4.1 causes gedit to hang. The
  file opens correclty using medit and LibreOffice Calc.

  This file comes from a data logger that uses fixed length files,
  padding the unused area at the end of the file with null characters.
