Thanks for your reply Frederik. I'm also using Thunderbird 60.2.1 and
either see file types to select or a message saying that no applications
can be found. I think some of the wording is ambiguous but if I had
another Thunderbird profile set up I think further options would be
available for import.
I'll mark this bug as being fixed. If anyone else says that the problem
still exists for them then I'll revert the status back to "Confirmed"
and report the issue to Mozilla.

in thunderbird ver 8, when I go to tools> import> filters then next
... and he asks me what type of file you want to import and there is
nothing to display ... for any type of import

I encountered the same problem with an OEM install on a new (< one week) PC.
Ubuntu 12.04 Had converted Eudora/Mac to Linux/MBOX and TBird couldn't see them
in import. What I found was, TBird reads MBOX directly, and copying into the
right directory solved the problem. The real issue was documentation, since
everything I found said convert and then import.
