The current version makes the dialog modal to the view/dim the content
to indicate you can't interact with it. You can also browse other

Title:
properties window blocks main window forever while size of content
folders are computed
Status in Nautilus:
New
Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
Steps to reproduce:
- Open Nautilus
- Navigate to a folder containing at least a subfolder F with thousands of
items totalling many gigabytes of contents
- Right-click on F and select Properties
=> You'll see the "contents" value that grows and grows
Now keep the Properties window open, and in the main window where you
were browsing, browse away from that folder and try to go into another
one
Expected: you should be able to do so, while the size of contents
still keeps being computed in the Properties window
Observed: the main window hangs and keep waiting forever and never
shows you the folder you're trying to browse, until the Properties are
done computing the size.
The workaround is to open a new tab or window, but this shouldn't be
necessary. Or if it is, then the window that is not going to respond should be
greyed out so you know you have to open a new tab.
