cannot hear any sound
Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
i upgraded to Karmic Koala(Ubuntu 9.10) this morning and i am unable to hear
any sound from my computer.
i tried re-installing and upgrading ALSA Drivers. still nothing.
not even system sounds are audible.
tried varying all sound volume related controls.
i am a newbie to Linux, hence point me in the right direction to rectify this.
