Title:
Screen lockup under XMir
Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
Won't Fix
Bug description:
I experienced a strange screen lockup. My screen was unresponsive: no
mouse movement, nothing changes. Switching to a VC was possible, and
the VC was not locked up. Switching back again to X (under XMir,
console 7) worked for a second, maybe two seconds, and then the screen
would freeze again. Switching to VC and then back to X would again
give a second or so of visual activity. Actions I performed did appear
to take effect while the screen was frozen, but were not shown on
screen: for example, I was able to highlight some text in a browser,
and then press alt+f2 and start an xterm, by doing it "blind":
switching to a VC and then back to X showed that these things had
happened.
In the VC, dmesg showed this:

The lines about i915 seemed relevant. Attached to this bug is a copy of the
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file.
I restarted lightdm from the VC and was given the opportunity to log
in, but the system then showed a dialog box saying that I was in "low-
graphics mode". I chose to exit to a console, at which point things
seemed to hang. I switched back to the VC and rebooted with "sudo
reboot" and the machine came back fine.
