Title:
[Regression]File-type handling is retarded
Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Scenario:
You want to edit a text file, so you make a copy with a different
name. Later, you want to remind yourself of what the original file
said, so you find it and open it.
What you expect to happen:
Nautilus will use whatever magic numbers and casting of bones that it
normally does to identify the type of file, see that it's a text file
the same as any other, and open it using the default text editor.
What actually happens:
Nautilus throws up a lame error message that
"There is no application installed for “backup file” files.
Do you want to search for an application to open this file?"
maintaining a database of file extensions like it's Windows 95. Ridiculous.
It was significantly better than that in Gnome 2.
Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail.
