This bug might be related to input grabbing that the VirtualBox window
does, and that might prevent the dock (or gnome-shell in general) from
getting a grab that it needs to detect exterior clicks for closing the
menu.

What if you just click the app icon, does that close it?

  application menu box can't close

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Reproduction step:

  1.Start a VirtualBox client os
  2.Open Gedit(or any other program), minimize or switch VirtualBox windows to 
front
  3.Long touch the icon of Gedit on icon bar

  Then a menu box popped, and can't close.

  My os is UBUNTU18.10
