(period) keys in the numeric pad. Comma is below "3", while period is to the right of "6". These keys produce distinct keycodes, as reported by `xev`: KeyPress event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x5a00001, root 0x15a, subw 0x0, time 18288752, (880,578), root:(2164,601), state 0x10, keycode 91 (keysym 0xffac, KP_Separator), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 1 bytes: (2c) "," XmbLookupString gives 1 bytes: (2c) "," XFilterEvent returns: False KeyPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x5a00001, root 0x15a, subw 0x0, time 18289384, (880,578), root:(2164,601), state 0x10, keycode 129 (keysym 0xffae, KP_Decimal), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 1 bytes: (2e) "." XmbLookupString gives 1 bytes: (2e) "." XFilterEvent returns: False All programs get this correctly, with the notable exception of OpenOffice.org, which produces a "," (comma) when any one of these keys are pressed. Steps to reproduce: 1. Press "." (period) in OOo Writer. Expected results: A "." (period) is produced. Actual results: A "," (comma) is produced.
