This sounds like a coincidence as I don't think the theme can directly
cause screen tearing.

Title:
Video tearing in Celluloid with new Yaru theme
Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Description: Ubuntu Eoan Ermine (development branch)
Release: 19.10
My specs:
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Caicos PRO [Radeon HD 7450]
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz
Latest version of Celluloid (0.17) obtained by PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~xuzhen666/+archive/ubuntu/gnome-mpv
When I use the new Ubuntu 19.10 dev theme (all gray Yaru), video playback
starts to tear in Celluloid (I wasn't able to capture it with
SimpleScreenRecorder, sorry, the tearing does not appear in the capture).
Really similar tearing occurs with Adwaita as the enabled theme.
It however does NOT occur at all with the older Yaru theme (which I copied
from my Ubuntu 19.04 install).
There is no tearing with any of the themes enabled in Wayland.
Tearing is scant and impossible to appreciate in VLC.
These issues occur only in X, and in Celluloid.
The reason I'm reporting this to you is because it coincides with the
theme change.
