Title:
gedit fails to display line with > 1000000 characters

Status in gedit package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  steps to reproduce:

    1. start `gedit`
    2. produce a line with > 1000000 characters, e.g. with `ipython` in
`gnome-terminal` where you can run `"1" * 1000000` and select all output and
copy it
    3. paste into `gedit`

Parts of the line seems to be rendered over other parts of the line.
This doesn't occur with 100000 characters. See attached screenshot for
  an example.
