When the connection fails these lines show up:

off the server/disconect the cable?

Here I mean clicking the unmount button for the network connection in
nautilus.

> do you get the same issue using gio mount?

I hope I did it right (anonymized paths / user name):

gio mount smb://[email protected]/share mountpoint

After a while it asks me for "Password required for share".
Then I have to enter domain and password.
After another while it asks the same question again.
Same journal output as above occurs:

  I'm only able to connect to a samba share once.

  Steps to reproduce

  * Open a samba network share via Nautilus.
  * Enter credentials, check "forget immediately"
  * Share mounted
  * Disconnect (or wait some time)
  * Try to open the same share again

  Expected behaviour
  ===

  * Credentials pop-up
  * Enter credentials
  * Share mounted

  Actual behaviour
  ===

  * Mouse pointer turns into spinner
  * After some minutes the credentials dialogue appears
  * I enter the correct credentials
  * Mouse pointer turns into spinner
  * ...
