>What webbrowser do you use?

>Did you try to install from gnome-software instead?
It doesn't work in gnome-software either. Additional behaviors observed
in gnome-software:
1) When I try to _uninstall_ the extension from inside gnome-software,
it says it can't uninstall it, but it actually does uninstall it, but it
still thinks it's installed, until I log out and log back in again, at
which point it no longer thinks it's installed.
2) If I open extension settings from gnome-software after installing it,
the toggle switch for the extension is off (like on the web site) and it
won't even let me toggle it on.
I also tried creating the extension directory in ~/.local/share/gnome-
shell/extensions by hand and downloading and unzipping the extension
manually there and then logging out and logging back in again, at which
point I'm back in the state described above: the shell thinks the
extension is installed but won't let me turn it on.

Title:
can't install gnome shell extensions
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Here's what I'm trying to do:
1. Go to https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1379/mpris-indicator-button/
2. Click the toggle switch to install it.
3. Use the extension after it is installed.
Here's what should happen:
1. I am prompted for confirmation to install the extension.
2. I click Install.
3. The toggle switch goes from Off to On and the extension is added to my top
bar.
Here's what happens instead:
1. I am prompted for confirmation to install the extension.
2. I click Install.
3. The toggle switch stays in the Off permission, and the extension is not
added to my top bar.
Here's what I see in journalctl:
Nov 06 13:13:24 jik-d42-x1 gnome-software[2200]: State change on user
/*/*/shell-extension/mprisindicatorbutton_JasonLG1979.github.io/* from
available to installed is not OK
I've also tried unzipping by hand into a subdirectory of
~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions, restarting gnome-shell, and
enabling the extension at extensions.gnome.org/local, but that doesn't
work either. The toggle switch goes to On when I toggle it, but the
extension isn't actually enabled and when I reload the page the switch
is Off again.
I've tried with https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/779/clipboard-
indicator/ and https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/7/removable-
drive-menu/ too. They won't install and activate either.
*** I do not have this problem on a second Ubuntu 19.10 computer I
use. *** I have no idea what is different between the two computers or
how to troubleshoot further.
I am using Xorg, not Wayland.
