Issue was fixed in upstream bugs 118862 and 652892 in 2012 and 2013
respectively.
Tested ok with rhythmbox 3.4.2 in Ubuntu 18.04 so closing as fixed.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: rhythmbox
When I click the button to show the browser (for artist, album, etc.)
in a playlist, it displays it for as long as I have Rhythmbox open,
but when I restart Rhythmbox, it's gone, and I have to click the
button again to show it.
