Public bug reported:

Google calendar became inaccessible after a recent update. The boxes of
the respective calendars are discoloured and displayed in grey. I
installed the google provider add-on to facilitate the log in. With the
plugin, the calendars are shown, but editing events and password storage
is still not working. Every time, an event is created or modified, a
login window pops up. When I supply my credentials, the login seems to
succeed, but the changes are not transmitted to the server. Lightning
also does not remember the credentials between sessions. Upon starting
thunderbird the next time, the password input window pops up again.
Beside the problems, I think that it is a nuisance that users have to
explicitly install lightning and then manually download the Google
provider add-on to access their Google calendars, this is a basic
functionality that should be included in the standard thunderbird or at
least lightning package.

1:60.8.0+build1-0ubuntu0.18.10.1
Provider for Google Calendar 4.4.2

Versions 4.4.1 and 4.4 are also not working, in these versions, no login
window pops up at all, and clicking on "Save and Close" has no effect.
The "New Event" window stays open, until thunderbird is killed from the
console.
