this was due to a patch we carried, but it was dropped when we migrated
to xserver 1.19

Bug description:
The behavior is odd and is a reason of a lot of errors due the typing.
Moreover it is not possible to switch rapidly between the layouts,
particularly, when typing something in both idioms. O working with
vim.
How to restore the old behavior to change the layout on Keypress?
