PCI/internal sound card not detected or plays white noise

Bug description:
Rocketfish 5.1 surround sound card detected as Creative Labs card.
Channels are reversed: left is right and vice versa. All sounds are
white noise.
Ubuntu 12.04.1
Default sound drivers do not work with this card.
