I found a leak in snapd-glib, which is fixed in snapd-glib 1.56. It's
not clear to me how to read the heaptrack data, as that leak doesn't
look significant to me there. Perhaps try again with updated focal to
see if there's any significant difference?

  High RSS useage for gnome-software background process

Bug description:
  I've had an uptime of slightly in excess of 2 days, and the gnome-
  software --gapplication-service process is using 700M RSS (3GiB Virt,
  ~50MB SHR).

  This seems excessive. I'll try running under heaptrack to see if
  there's any obvious slow leaks.
