However, some .deb files with scanner drivers, typically provided by Brother, install files in /usr/lib64/sane. It would be great if that directory could be supported too. This issue has been discussed in bug #1728012, but was broken out from there to not block another more important change in bionic. If Debian accepts the proposal in <https://bugs.debian.org/931297>, the change is a SRU candidate to bionic at first hand.
