So, when I clicked the 'Test' button the first time, it blanked for a longer time before coming back on, but after that, it flickered very shortly.
Also, assuming that the problem is related to this feature, I think that then it would blank out every time any alerts came in. However, it blanks out only for the first time and then if I repeatedly cause that sound to be played, then the flickering doesn't happen. I think this has something to do with the sound drivers messing with my display somewhere. I'm really not aware of how Ubuntu (or any Linux for that matter) manages video and audio, and I hope to learn more, but I'm a hundred per cent sure that if I cause any sound to be played, even unpause a YouTube video after more than about a minute of silence, it blanks out for me. That's definitely not something that triggers a visual alert right? Please help me, I just want a seamless and perfect Linux experience for myself and anyone else using Linux on an HP Pavilion laptop. I intended to move away from Windows as soon as possible, but I've been unable to do so on this new laptop ever since I've bought it (18.04 didn't install properly, 19.10 had battery and graphics issues (Intel graphics wasn't detected), and now 20.04 development version is causing display problems again...) ** Attachment added: "Flicker-Bug.mp4" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1869549/+attachment/5344736/+files/Flicker-Bug.mp4 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1869549 Title: [nvidia] Whenever a sound needs to be played the screen blanks out Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Whenever a sound needs to be played the screen blanks out for a second, then the screen comes back on, and the sound plays. Examples of sounds are when I press Tab on the terminal, and there are no possible completions, or when I press the down button on the terminal, and there are no further lines below, then it blanks out, comes back, and then plays the "ding" tone telling me there are no further completions or lines. However, after one blank-out, if I keep pressing the down button, the sounds play normally without blanking out for a short time. After that period, it repeats again on doing something that would cause the sound to be played again.
