Yes, this is the case. When I turn this off chromium is terminated correctly.

There is a invisible chrome icon in app indicator space however it can not be activated by clicking on it. The dash does not show that chrome is still active. Not closing correctly further leads to the annoying problem chromium not saving its state when restarting. But this is an other problem.
