ok, well a definite way around this is to re-install everything. I just re-installed ubuntu 64 bit and then did all of my changes, finally installed novula player and everything is working ship shape. I tried the disabling all plugins and even removing Firefox and it still did that, what an odd thing that happened. Jiří , thank you so much for helping out.
