  Headphones not working after upgrade to 11.10

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Speakers are working fine, but no sound in headphones (when the jack is 
inserted, no sound at all). 
  Checked with other headphones. and multiple applications (browsers, VLC, 
etc.) with the same result.
  Running 11.10 on Asus N73J laptop; was working with 11.04 and previous 
versions.
  linux-sound-base version is 1.0.24+dfsg-0ubuntu2.
