This seems to be fixed. Currently the cut off for the background color
is 1600px which is as defined in the exhibit html - this value is most
likely sufficient for all standard resolutions.

Title:
Exhibit banners ignore window width and have white background

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Ubuntu Software Center 5.0.1.4, Ubuntu 11.10 RC
  software-center trunk r2518

  1. Launch USC.

  What you see:
  * The exhibit banner on the home screen is about 692 pixels wide, regardless
of any width specified inside the HTML.
  * The area outside it is drawn in white.

  What you should see:
  * The exhibit banner is the width of the window by default.
  * Any area outside it is transparent.

(The HTML-specified width is ignored regardless of whether it is a
  percentage or in pixels.)
