I just in-place upgraded to 12.04 from 11.10 (amd64)
my sound works, but the volume is all or nothing. the volume is the
same at 1% as it as 100%. any ideas how i can fix this?

i've killed pulseaudio, removed ~/.pulse, rebooted to no avail
