Title:
[HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB, playback] No sound at all

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Volume Control shows only Headphones output. There is very faint sound
coming through the headphones when plugged in, it's barely audible
even with all levels turned up to the max. I never can get any output
through the internal speakers. The sound worked properly in Ubuntu
10.10 (the last version to be installed on this machine). I believe
that there has been some significant change to the alsa drivers since
then. I have tried every suggested fix even remotely related to my
situation from modifying /etc/modules.d/asla-base.conf to hda-jack-
retask with various settings. Nothing seems to work. I'm sure that the
output is not muted. Besides showing only the headphones output,
everything looks like it should be working, but it's not.

This is a Toshiba Satellite M115-S1061 laptop.
