Title:
Audio issues upon updating to 10.4

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
The bug I had affect me disrupted a few mp3s I have on my desktop to
test when updating. I don't have many other audio files anywhere else
on my linux partition, so I don't know if this would affect other
  formats or other locations.

When updating to 10.4, I found that the alsamixer reset my master
output to 0. I reset this, but found problems with my test mp3s.

Several different programs played the files in different ways:

Audacity, being an editing program, showed the about a second of blank
audio, about a second of the start of the song, and about 8 seconds
towards the end. Audacity played the audio like this.

Movieplayer/Totem would play about a half second of the start, then
stop with the following error: "Failed to Parse Stream"

Rhythmbox played the first half second of the song. It did not
  display any errors

The rollover/ preview function behaved like rhythmbox.

The file sizes were not unusually small, so it doesn't look like they
  were corrupted.

Other mp3s and videos were okay when playing from my external HD.

I think the package was related to the restricted media formats, but
since they play from other sources, I am not sure.
