Title:
[ICH4 - Intel ICH6, playback] Sound is too loud

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Even at minimal setting the sound is quite loud when played in
  headphones.

There is a fairly loud pop from the emitted whenever playback begins -
  speakers or headphones.

There are some crackles and noise from the headphones.

I'm just starting out with Ubuntu from Windows, using Natty Narwhal,
  11.04.

I haven't located the sound 'control panel' just yet so maybe there is
a fix for one or both of my problems there.
