Upon more investigation I found out that this was caused by a specific extension I have enabled: Minimize On Start and Close 1.3.2
Disabling this extension solves the problem. I don't have this problem in Ubuntu 10.10 where I use an up-to-date version of Thunderbird from the Mozilla Team PPA. Probably something specific for Ubuntu 11.10 in combination with this extension causes this problem. ** Summary changed: - Not responding to some mouse click actions + Not showing context menus with extension Minimize On Start and Close ** Description changed: I did a clean install of Ubuntu 11.10 and reuse my home partition.
