Reviewing bug 1868519, it certainly matches the situation. Mouse
movement is the trigger for the crash. For gimp it's moving the mouse
after opening or creating an image. For Libreoffice it's beginning to
use the crop tool, which is also a mouse movement.

  On a Ubuntu session this then ends the session and it drops back to
  the login screen. I tried on a classic Gnome desktop and it froze the
  desktop resulting in requiring a forced reboot using the power key.
