| I tried the git version of the applet and couldn't reproduce the warnings. 
After applying
| Ubuntu patches, warnings are present, so this is a downstream issue; please 
report it to
| Ubuntu bug tracker. In particular, patch

Bug description:
  I hope I am in the right place for this. My .xsession-errors file is
  filled with entries in the following format, in that order/sequence,
  over and over and continuously:

  (nm-applet:1839): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_destroy: assertion
  'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

  (nm-applet:1839): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_destroy: assertion
  'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

  (nm-applet:1839): Gtk-WARNING **: Can't set a parent on widget which
  has a parent

  Ubuntu MATE 17.10
