Bug description:
While updating my system running Focal (20.04), my nvidia drivers are not
working and now I cannot install the updates (ubuntu-drivers autoinstall).
I tried to purge everything installed and named nvidia and after
autoinstalling the correct driver for my system.
  Thanks for helping out.

  1)
  aurion@w540:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu Focal Fossa (development branch)
  Release: 20.04

  2)
  aurion@w540:~$ apt-cache policy nvidia-340
  nvidia-340:
    Installed: (none)
    Candidate: 340.108-0ubuntu2
    Version table:
       340.108-0ubuntu2 500

  3) I would like to be able to install this version of nvidia driver
since I have a dockstation and I use the thunderbolt connection for my
  external monitor

  4) I got an error message that the script could not install the drivers. I
also had a look into the synaptic additional drivers and the nvidia is selected
as installed. However the rendering of my screen is very slow and when I switch
to another screen, I can see the window been reloaded.
Also I am unable to connect my external monitor via thunderbolt.
