Ubuntu Dock has no icons when logged in with USB storage plugged in

Bug description:
If I connect a USB key to the computer then login the Favorites side
bar is empty and the Application launcher does not work.
The mouse and keyboard still work
Removing the USB key does not resolve the issue
Removing the USB key and then logging out and back in again resolves
the issue.
