Please try selecting 'Ubuntu on Wayland' on the login screen, just
before you enter your password. Does the touch screen work any better in
a Wayland session?

Title:
Dell XPS 13 9333 Synaptics touch screen does not work after boot but
will work after resume from sleep?

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I freshly installed Ubuntu 20.10 and noticed that the touch screen
does not work. Tried xinput --list and then xinput disable/enable
[correct-id] but with no avail.
However, if I close the laptop lid and open it, after the system
resumes from sleep, the touch screen starts working.
BUT, another anomaly happens, this could not necessarily be after the
1st resume from sleep, it could be the 2nd+ ---> the "Windows" key on
the keyboard stops working? So, I can't start apps by type and search?
And when this happens, the whole screen sometimes freezes and becomes
unresponsive ex. moving around the mouse (synaptic touch pad and not
touchscreen), no matter where I click, no reaction... I tried
CTRL+ALT+F1 then switch back and somehow it started working again? It
also happened, that the synaptic touch pad was not moving the mouse
cursor on the screen (and the mouse cursor just disappeared)? Luckily,
the keyboard was still reacting for the CTRL+ALT+T and the terminal
window showed up, from where I used sudo modprobe -r psmouse and then
sudo modprobe psmouse and also xinput disable/enable [touch-pad-id]
and it got back to work.
Many things happen in this one bug it seems?
NOTE: when running 20.10 from USB (Live CD), then the touchscreen
works perfectly! Only after install do these anomalies happen?
