Much has changed in the 10+ years since this issue was reported.

Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) reached end-of-life on May 9, 2013.

In my "impish" installation of Ubuntu both "Ctrl+Alt+D" and "Super+D"
show the desktop as expected. I'm closing this as "Invalid" as the issue
is for a release that is so long EOL is not worth investigating.
