I was also affected by this.  From journalctl it looked driver-related.
Updated drivers, logged in and out seemed to fix it.

Will update if it happens again.

  I was attempting to open Gnome Coltrol Center, when it failed to
  launch. After trying again, it still fails to open. Attempting to
  launch via terminal command shows the following;
