Thank you for your bug report. That was also discussed upstream on

and pointed out as a bug in the C rewrite of that service Ubuntu had
until https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-modeswitch/2.6.0-2ubuntu1

The forum exchange stated that the Debian version works and that's
basically what we have in Ubuntu now so I'm going to close the bug now

Ideally we would fix those issues in focal still though

  usb-modeswitch doesn't recognize FRITZ!WLAN AC 860 wifi adapter
  properly

  Fix Released

Bug description:
  usb-modeswitch won't recognize my FRITZ!WLAN AC 860 wifi adapter
  properly and it usually takes between 4 and 6 minutes for the switch
  from the CD-ROM mode to the adapter mode to happen. I'm using Ubuntu
  20.04.3 and usb-modeswitch 2.5.2.
