It looks like this issue was fixed in 1.10.2 according to my testing.
That version should reach Debian Unstable soon.

I expect we'll stick with the 1.8.x series for Ubuntu 22.10.

  <mbiebl> looks like the latest libnma update to 1.10.0 broke nm-
  connection-editor for me. If I try to edit a connection now, a file
  chooser pops up repeatedly

  Which is confirmed on kinetic installing the proposed version
