This orange screencast icon is only shown in Wayland sessions. In x11,
any application can listen to input for any application (including
passwords) and peek at their rendered content, so it is pointless to
show that icon in x11 sessions too, since with no icon shown,
applications can still spy on others there.
In any case, it is not g-r-d, that shows that icon, but gnome-shell,
when either a remote desktop session or screencast session was created.

Title:
No icon in tray and integration in menu when someone is connected
Status in gnome-remote-desktop package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
I'm running an up to date Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS using X.
A friend of mine is having the same hardware and it's fully functional.
Just few extensions but even I I disable everything still no orange icon and
no integration, got no info.
It's working perfectly, just a tiny bug.
Anything I can provide to help? ... if you can provide commands I can
do it.
