To some people "lag" means higher latency without frame skips. The higher mouse latency in Wayland sessions is an unfortunate feature of Linux's atomic mode setting (as well as mutter's architecture). You might get better performance by disabling atomic mode setting in /etc/environment:
MUTTER_DEBUG_FORCE_KMS_MODE=simple and then reboot. To other people for which "lag" primarily means stutter and missed frames, indeed bug 1982560 sounds like the right place for that. ** Tags added: dt-6 ** Package changed: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) => mutter (Ubuntu) ** Tags added: wayland wayland-session ** Tags added: performance ** Tags added: latency -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1997597 Title: Wayland session has laggy pointer tracking Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This is a regression that came with the change from Xorg to Wayland. It's particularly bad for playing fast-paced games, such as first- person shooters. The pointer tracking has a small but significant delay, which cannot be reproduced on the Xorg session.
