Actually I see the issue with both.
The journalctl extract is from an attempt with the current image (with
Ubiquity).
Yesterday I installed via yesterday's pending image. Same problem. Not
magically fixed. :(

Title:
Can't log in to lunar x11 session
Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
On a freshly installed and updated lunar in VirtualBox it doesn't let
me log in to Ubuntu on Xorg. I'm just bumped back to the login screen.
journalctl extract attached.
On my regular (updated) lunar install, logging in to Ubuntu on Xorg
works fine. But that's anything but a fresh install.
Missing dependency?
