Public bug reported:

I am having trouble logging in. Ever since (if memory serves correctly and I am
interpreting my reboot and apt history correctly) I upgraded mesa from
22.0.5-0ubuntu0.1 to 22.0.5-0ubuntu0.3, the following problem presents itself:
I reboot, the normal splash screen comes on, and I am prompted for a username
(before it always already knew my username) and when I press enter, the prompt
for my password appears for a split second and then immediately I am prompted
for my username again.

The only way I can log in, is to start a TTY by pressing Crtl+Alt+4,
logging in at the terminal and typing startx. I cannot start a wayland
session by typing "gnome-session --session gnome-wayland". When I try
this at the tty4 terminal, nothing happens, when I try this at a
terminal that I start within my gnome session in Xorg, the session
crashes. So it appeared to me to be linked to another bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1969243. So I have
tried to set WaylandEnable both true and false in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
both with and without disabling /lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules, but to
no avail.

 The output to loginctl show-session c1 is :
Id=c1
User=123
Name=gdm
Timestamp=Sat 2023-01-21 13:10:41 CET
TimestampMonotonic=23544726
VTNr=1
Seat=seat0
TTY=tty1

Active=no
State=online
IdleHint=yes
IdleSinceHint=1674303356536548
IdleSinceHintMonotonic=338468659
LockedHint=no

The type will change to Xorg (or X11, I don't remember exactly) when I
have set WaylandEnable to false. But in both cases the same problem
manifests itself and I have no idea what this could be.

ubuntu version: 22.04.1
kernel version: 5.15.0-58-generic (I had an issue with my UEFI after upgrading
my kernel to this version, where my bios only had the Windows bootloader left,
but that may have been due to unplugging the computer while it was running)
gdm3 version: 42.0-1ubuntu7
mesa-va_drives version: 22.0.5-0ubuntu0.3
processor: Intel® Core™ i5-8500T CPU @ 2.10GHz × 6
