Reuben Emmanuel (manueljoe), regarding your comments: "However shouldn't this option be a default setting while installing the OS itself?"
For all the tests previously mentioned, the default for "spelling as you type" is checked. It seems you and chalcedony may have unchecked it inadvertently. Otherwise, Launchpad would be flooded with bugs claiming that the functionality is broken and/or asking for the default of "spelling as you type" is checked. Despite this, this bug report is being closed due to comment #9 regarding this being fixed with a configuration change. For future reference you can manage the status of your own bugs by clicking on the current status in the yellow line and then choosing a new status in the revealed drop down box. You can learn more about bug statuses at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status. Thank you again for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please submit any future bugs you may find. ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/871118 Title: Libreoffice spelling & spellcheck problems - has no red underlines for misspelling Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: libreoffice has no red underlines for misspelled words. I have not been able to right click and add to it's vocabulary. Tools - Spelling and Grammar - [Continue checking at beginning of document?] [Yes] [No] - clicking Yes, I get [The spellcheck is complete.] [OK] - click OK.. but there are no word in Not in dictionary and nothing got checked. 4) What happened instead There are no underlines, my misspellings and typos don't show up. Tools > Spelling & Grammar does nothing. I couldn't update vocabulary when the red underlines did work. I almost sent a a legal document with "Appeal the opinionss expressed" - in the top line!
