nautilus shows wrong files after delete

Bug description:
Test case:
1) in a new directory: touch 1 2 3
result: files appear in nautilus
2) delete file 1
result: 3 disappears, 1 and 2 are shown
3) refresh using F5
results: 2 and 3 are shown
I noticed this bizarre issue a few days ago and therefore reinstalled the
23.04 OS partition. Issue remains even after
* fresh install of 23.04 on OS partition
* gsettings reset-recursively org.gnome.nautilus
* sudo rm -rf ~/.config/nautilus
