However when 'Highlight Misspelled Words' is switched off, the program is fast and responsive. This is a problem on my older desktop (Intel Celeron 2.66GHz with gedit 3.2.1 on a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10, running openbox (Lubuntu desktop)) and also my netbook (1.3GHz atom dual-core).
