I tried following Mozilla's instructions from the link you provided, in a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 virtual machine, and I was unable to reproduce the issue. I removed the Firefox snap, then ran the provided commands for setting things up to use the Mozilla repo. I then ran "sudo apt-get install firefox=128.0.3~build1" to install a slightly older version of the firefox package from Mozilla. Then, running "sudo apt-get upgrade" correctly upgraded the firefox package to version 129.0~build2, the current latest release, as expected. Are you completely sure you didn't miss any intermediary steps? Would you be able to try things in a fresh environment (e.g. a new virtual machine) and see if you can reproduce the issue? If not, unfortunately I'm not sure there's much I could do to help, except perhaps encourage you to open a bug report on Mozilla's tracker at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org with your observations. Upon installation by `apt` I have to add the `--allow-downgrades` even though the apt version has exactly the same version as snap one 2. Everytime a new version is released, the snap package is reinstalled and takes over the deb package one when clicking the desktop shortcut to launch. I guess all of these stem from the issue that Ubuntu somehow treats the Snap variant as the newer release! AFAIK this is special to Ubuntu 24.04 and did not notice such behavior on 22.04.
