When no headphones are connected to my machine, the 'Sound' dialog in
Settings lists one output device - 'Speaker sof-hhda-dsp' When
headphones are connected, an additional device is available and the
output device changes to that second device - 'Headphones - sof-hhda-
dsp'. However, no sound is heard.
To hear any sound, I need to select 'Speaker sof-hhda-dsp' manually.
This however outputs sound not through the speakers but through the
headphones! The major issue is that whenever a program tries to play a
sound, the output device reverts to 'Headphones' giving no output at all
either through the laptop speakers or through my headphones. I have to
manually set to 'Speakers' constantly after I which I can hear sound in
my earphones. However, the change keeps reverting if I change the active
program, or even a tab in Chrome.
