Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS
gnome-control-center Installed: 1:41.7-0ubuntu0.22.04.8

sound output device test doesn't work unless audio program is playing a
file. If i open gnome control center>sound>output device>test and press
left speaker right speaker nothing happens. Expected behavior right and
left speaker test to work without having to open audio file. It used to
work this way, now it doesn't for unknown reasons. If I leave gnome
control center open and open an audio program and play a file and test
the speakers again left front and right front test works.
