Public bug reported:

What is happening: When using an accent dead key like "´" the cursor
changes from vertical bar to the accent over an underscore. After typing
any vocal key (a, e, i, o , u), the letter is written with the accent
(á, é, í, ó, ú) but the cursor remains with the accent over an
underscore instead of returning to the vertical bar. Typing any other
letter after that writes the expected letter without accent despite the
cursor shown. Changing focus to another window, using the mouse to place
the cursor somewhere else or moving the cursor with arrow keys
reestablish the cursor to the vertical bar.

When the issue started: After upgrading from Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04.
